Do you want more for your child than you can give them right now? Are you unable to safely raise a child due to life circumstances? Adoption could be a great option for you.
Often, people initially reject this option due to the fear of living with ongoing sadness. This emotion is normal and understandable; carrying a child for nine months involves bonding so that separation could be painful.
However, many women have chosen adoption and found incredible satisfaction in giving life to a child who will be welcomed into another family.
Your Adoption Options
There are multiple adoption options in Canada. Here are the four adoption types:
- Public adoption: A public adoption involves adopting a child who is under the guardianship of a provincial or territorial child welfare agency.
- Private adoption: Private adoption, also known as independent adoption, occurs when birth parents voluntarily place their child for adoption with adoptive parents of their choosing.
- International adoption: This type of adoption involves adopting a child from another country. It can be a complex and lengthy process, but it offers the chance to provide a home to a child in need from abroad.
- Kinship adoption: Kinship adoption is a type of adoption where a child is adopted by a relative or someone with a significant relationship to the child, such as a grandparent, aunt, uncle, or family friend.
Choosing A Family
You get to choose an adoptive family from among the many available families. This step can be challenging and emotional.
Families go through an extensive process to be approved. Choosing an adoptive family includes things like criminal and child abuse background checks, home studies, and a questionnaire covering hobbies, religion, income, education, etc.
