What to Look For

First, remember that every woman is different. Some women experience the classic signs of pregnancy, while others have none at all. It’s also important to consider that certain symptoms can actually indicate a hormonal imbalance or other condition.

Below are some common symptoms associated with early pregnancy.

Missed Period

A missed period is a classic sign of pregnancy, and it occurs because a fertilized egg attaches to the uterine lining, which cannot shed.

However, some women have irregular cycles, so a missed period may not be noticeable.

Tender, Swollen Breasts

Hormonal changes can make your breasts feel sore, though this change should go away after a few weeks.

Nausea (With or Without Vomiting)

You’ve likely heard of “morning sickness,” which can happen anytime. Pregnancy hormones likely cause this symptom.

Frequent Urination

The amount of blood in your body increases during pregnancy, making extra fluid end up in your bladder. You might be pregnant if you find yourself using the bathroom more often.

Fatigue

Are you feeling more tired than usual? Do you have to take more frequent naps? Increased progesterone levels can cause this symptom.

Food Aversions

Finding that you can’t stand the food you once enjoyed? Do certain smells make you more sensitive? Hormonal shifts might be to blame.

Moodiness

Hormonal changes can cause mood swings or cause you to be more emotional than usual. This symptom can go away over time, but speaking to your healthcare provider is essential if you feel these changes are particularly disruptive. You deserve to feel well and have support.
